I hope to find what I'm looking for..........

Due to popular demand, I have decided to start a blog to document my experience in becoming a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone.

I felt that the title was fitting.  That was the one thing I would tell everyone about my reasons for doing this.  "I hope to find what I'm looking for in Africa..........whatever it might be."  A midlife, soul-searching journey, I suppose.

So the journey begins......

I'm in Philly for the staging event where they do an administrative rack & stack along with misc ice breaking activities with the group of people who I will be spending the next 27 months with.  It's actually a relief to meet people in the same situation as me.  It was assuring to know that they had the same fears and anxieties as I did, in regards to being an effective teacher, the ability to communicate in Krio, integration into our respective communities, and so on and so forth.

So this is my last night in the U.S., everyone was very particular as to what their "last supper" will be.  I scarfed down a bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, a good beer, then walked over to the ice cream shop and helped myself to a big ass ice cream.  Calories????  Who the fuck cares!  I'll lose it all anyways in Africa, lol!

We will be bussed out to JFK tomorrow for our 6pm flight to Sierra Leone......this is all too real now........it's time.........me.........Africa..........

My current feelings:  SENSORY OVERLOAD
