06/09/12-The UN-Grind.....

Today was our 1st official day of Pre-Service Training (PST). It was alot of information to take in but it was similar to any standard protocol training class with ppt charts, team building sessions, informational bullets and etc.

I would usually complain about these training sessions but this time around, I don't. I feel like I've successfully achieved my plot to "escape the grind". Aside from the training sessions, everything about my day was anything but normal.

This morning, I make my way around to stadium to the training room where I cross paths with these brightly colored lizards skittering along the pavement. The US Ambassador and his wife came to meet us for lunch and thanked us, wow, we haven't even done anything yet. At the end of the day, we hang out around the confines of the stadium, I hear Krio left and right as I pass by locals. We chill out under a tree by these kids and they try to teach us a few Krio phrases, it starts to rain.....hard, we run back towards the hostel as the rain drenches me with the heavy downpour. I'm wet, musty, but happy and laughing. The hostel workers were entertained when they were watching me whack mosquitos all over me which was a great ice breaker, I go over and talk to them, they teach me more Krio phrases, it's still hard but I'm eager to learn. They asked if I was Chinese and I corrected them and said that I was Filipino and to my surprise they said that they love watching Filipino movies, lol crazy, haha! They were women, they must like the cheesy sappy Filipino flicks, lol. I complimented them on their beatuful and colorful dresses, I want in on it, can't wait to have a dress tailored for only $5 USD.

We unwinded this evening by semi-crashing a leadership conference danceparty at one of the halls by the lobby. We lingered around the bar area and danced to their calypso music......I love the music here. They even had an MJ montage where an MJ dancer performed, he was so fucking badass, he literally made my night. Kinda made me forget about the horrid Star Beer I paid 2000 Leones for.

I'm definitely feelin' all of this right now. It makes the $2.50/day income all worth it. A day in my life.....The UN-Grind. :D
